How to play Dinos

How to play Dinos

Dino is one of the best-designed decks Yu-Gi-Oh! has ever "cooked" because it's so self-sufficient that it doesn't need a Skill to patch its weaknesses. But having said that, this year's Skills aren't just about fixing weaknesses and design flaws in decks; they're also about making going second less "disgusting" compared to the TCG and Master Duel. But Dino doesn't even need that because we already have "Misk".

Okay, what's wrong with Dino? What's the problem? Why is it so good? Why are you upset? Why are you annoyed? It nullifies every deck and it's so awful? Now we'll find out.

During either player's Main Phase: You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; during this Main Phase, Dinosaur-Type monsters you control are unaffected by your opponent's activated effects. You can banish any number of Dinosaur-Type monsters from your Graveyard, including this card; Special Summon 1 Dinosaur-Type monster from your Deck with a Level equal to the total number of monsters banished to activate this effect, but destroy it during the End Phase. You can only use this effect of "Miscellaneousaurus" once per turn.

This card is a Hand Trap that you can discard during the Main Phase to make all your Dinosaurs unaffected by effects activated during that Main Phase.

As long as this effect works successfully, you're free to ignore most game interruptions, making this deck an absolute nightmare to face. This deck aims to set up a ridiculously strong endboard to interrupt your opponent enough that they can't break through, and with MISCELLANEOUSAURUS , you can make it exponentially harder for them to prevent your interruptions.

MISCELLANEOUSAURUS is not just a Hand Trap; it can banish any number of Dinosaurs, including itself, from the Graveyard to summon a Dinosaur from your deck with a Level equal to the number of Dinosaurs you banished.

2 Level 4 Dinosaur-Type monsters During either player's turn, when a monster effect activates: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that monster.

The boss monsters of this deck are EVOLZAR LAGGIA , EVOLZAR DOLKKA , OVERTEX QOATLUS , and ULTIMATE CONDUCTOR TYRANNO .

EVOLZAR LAGGIA and EVOLZAR DOLKKA are actually Dragons, but they require Dinosaur materials to summon. This makes them a bit more balanced considering they won't be protected by MISCELLANEOUSAURUS . However, EVOLZAR LAGGIA separates both of its materials to negate a summon or a Spell/Trap card, and that's quite powerful and versatile, which is why it costs both materials to use.

But EVOLZAR DOLKKA can detonate a material to negate a monster's effect and destroy it, but it's not "once per turn," so it negates the monster twice. That's a lot of power, but it can't negate backrows, making it less versatile.

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by shuffling 5 of your banished Dinosaur monsters into the Main Deck. Once per turn, when your opponent activates a Spell/Trap Card (Quick Effect): You can destroy 1 Dinosaur monster in your hand or face-up on your field, and if you do, negate the activation, and if you do that, destroy that card. If this card is sent to the GY by a card effect: You can add 1 "Evolution Pill" Spell from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Overtex Qoatlus" once per turn.

OVERTEX QOATLUS can be Special Summoned by shuffling 5 banished dinosaurs back into the deck, and it's a Spell/Trap negate card. 5 banished dinosaurs? Oh well. Don't worry , we have an easier way to set this up, but we also have a way to send that many dinosaurs into the banishment zone.

But if we can set up this card, it can keep our non-Dinosaur Xyz monsters safe from backrow, so we don't have to play EVOLZAR LAGGIA to negate backrow and we have more freedom to play EVOLZAR DOLKKA for more monster negate turns.

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 2 Dinosaur-Type monsters from your Graveyard. Once per turn, during either player's Main Phase: You can destroy 1 monster in your hand or field, and if you do, change all face-up monsters your opponent controls to face-down Defense Position. This card can attack all monsters your opponent controls, once each. At the start of the Damage Step, if this card attacks a Defense Position monster: You can inflict 1000 damage to your opponent, and if you do, send that Defense Position monster to the Graveyard.

Our mighty Tyranno is the Ultimate Controller . You can summon him by banishing two Dinosaurs from the Graveyard, which is fairly easy. He also has a Quick Effect that allows you to destroy a Dinosaur on the field or in your hand to " Book of Eclipse" (face down) the entire field of your opponent.
And he can attack all of your opponent's monsters once, and instead of destroying them, he can also send them to the Graveyard non-target, dealing 1000 damage to your opponent. This card itself is a disruption, a way to deal with your opponent's protected monsters, and a way to break up your opponent's entire field and get an easy OTK. That's why he's the Final Boss, one of a kind.

If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can take 1 Dinosaur-Type monster from your Deck, and either add it to your hand or send it to the Graveyard. You can target 1 other Level 4 or lower Dinosaur-Type monster on the field; destroy it, then Special Summon 1 Dinosaur-Type monster from your Graveyard in Defense Position. You can only use each effect of "Souleating Oviraptor" once per turn.

To begin the processing, we have the Starters: MISCELLANEOUSAURUS , SOULEATING OVIRAPTOR , BABYCERASAURUS , and FOSSIL DIG to search for any of them.

When summoned , Souleating Oviraptor can either search for any Dinosaur or send any Dinosaur from your deck to the Graveyard, and then he can destroy a Dinosaur on your field to revive another Dinosaur. And that can trigger some pretty good combos because Babycerasaurus activates upon destruction to summon a 4-star or lower Dinosaur monster from your deck.

Add 1 Level 6 or lower Dinosaur monster from your Deck to your hand.

Fossil Dig is the main searcher card in the Dinosaur deck, making it easy to access important monsters. If you don't have Miscellaneousaurus in your starting hand, Fossil Dig can find it. Additionally, it can retrieve Giant Rex to discard with a skill or Babycerasaurus to destroy with Animadorned Archosaur , extending the combo.

Playing with two copies of Fossil Dig is acceptable, but three copies is the optimal number to ensure stability. However, obtaining more copies can be difficult as you need to open Selection Boxes to get them. The upside is that you only need two more copies, since the first card can already be obtained from the Rex Raptor level 40 reward.

If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can destroy 1 Dinosaur monster in your hand or face-up field, except "Animadorned Archosaur", then add 1 Reptile, Sea Serpent, or Winged Beast monster with the same original Level as that destroyed monster, OR 1 "Evolution Pill" Spell, from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Animadorned Archosaur" once per turn.

Animadorned Archosaur is a crucial card in the first combo, helping you destroy Babycerasaurus to find Double Evolution Pill . You should generally play one or two copies to ensure you can find it with Miscellaneousaurus . Two copies is optimal, because if you draw one, you still have another in your deck to search for. However, it would be frustrating to draw both Animadorned Archosaur and Double Evolution Pill in your starting hand.

If this card is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard: Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Dinosaur-Type monster from your Deck.

Babycerasaurus is a crucial combo expansion card, making it easier to advance to Rank 4 or Link Xyz monsters. You've probably heard the phrase "Pop the baby"—this is the card that gave rise to it! You can destroy Babycerasaurus with Animadorned Archosaur to find Double Evolution Pill , or use Souleating Oviraptor to destroy it, then revive another copy from your deck to summon another Rank 4 monster.

A common combo is to destroy Babycerasaurus and then revive a copy. However, be careful: DO NOT revive the exact Babycerasaurus that was just destroyed, as its graveyard effect will not activate. This is a common mistake that many people, including myself, have made!

Cannot attack directly. If this card is banished: You can Special Summon this card, and if you do, this card gains 200 ATK for each of your banished Dinosaur monsters. You can only use this effect of "Giant Rex" once per turn.

Giant Rex is a useful card when banished by Double Evolution Pill or the effects of Ultimate Conductor Tyranno . When banished, Giant Rex automatically summons back to the field, allowing you to advance to Link or Rank 4 Xyz monsters. However, it's important to note that this effect is "hard once per turn," so playing multiple copies can cause you to brick your deck. Therefore, playing one copy is usually a better option.

Petiteranodon has a similar effect to Babycerasaurus , allowing you to summon an additional copy of Babycerasaurus from your deck. While I haven't used this card myself, it can be useful if your deck has more than 20 cards. Note that monsters summoned by Petiteranodon cannot attack during that turn, which can sometimes affect strategy but isn't crucial.

Banish 1 Dinosaur monster and 1 non-Dinosaur monster from your hand and/or GY; Special Summon 1 Level 7 or higher Dinosaur monster from your hand or Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions. You can only activate 1 "Double Evolution Pill" per turn.

Double Evolution Pill is arguably the most important card in the Dinosaur deck, as it triggers a powerful turn 1 combo. You don't want to draw this card in your starting hand, because the effect of Animadorned Archosaur only works while Double Evolution Pill is in your deck. Its importance is so great that some decklists even use Big Evolution Pill to prevent combo interruptions.

However, if you draw a Double Evolution Pill in your opening hand, you can still establish a stable position with the support of other cards. Personally, I don't use Big Evolution Pill , as drawing two "Pills" in the opening hand is very frustrating. After removing Big Evolution Pill , my deck works more stably, only rarely drawing a Double Evolution Pill a few times.

The Double Evolution Pill allows you to summon either Ultimate Conductor Tyranno or Overtex Qoatlus , which is especially useful if you already have Ultimate Conductor Tyranno in your hand.

You can only use this Skill's first and second effects once per turn (1 effect per turn) and once each per Duel. 1: Can be used before your normal draw. Play 1 "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" from your Extra Deck in face-down Defense Position and send 1 "Black Luster Soldier" from your hand or Deck to the Graveyard. One of the cards from your normal draw this turn will be "Ultimate Fusion". 2: Reveal 1 LIGHT, DARK, or EARTH monster, or 1 "Ultimate Fusion" from your hand, then either place that card on the bottom of your Deck or send it to the Graveyard. Then, draw 2 cards.

We also have a Skill to help us find the puzzle pieces more easily, but the Skill's name is ridiculously long.

Just know that you can shuffle or discard Light, Dark, or Earth monsters back into your deck to draw 2 cards. That's all you need to know. It can help us send items to the Graveyard to banish them or return bricks to the deck, but the important thing is that it's an easy and convenient draw to help us set up plays.

      Combo

      I. STARTER COMBOS

Case 1: Presence of BABYCERASAURUS + MISCELLANEOUSAURUS

      1. In hand: Activate MISCELLANEOUSAURUS (discard to Graveyard) to protect all Dinosaurs from activation effects during the Main Phase.

      2. Under the Grave: Exile MISCELLANEOUSAURUS -> Special Summon ANIMADORNED ARCHOSAUR from the deck.

      3. On the field: ARCHOSAUR effect activated: Defeat BABYCERASAURUS (in hand) -> Search for DOUBLE EVOLUTION PILL .

      4. Under the Grave: BABYCERASAURUS effect activated -> Summons SOULEATING OVIRAPTOR from the deck.

      5. On the field: OVIRAPTOR effect activated -> Search for a second BABYCERASAURUS in your hand.

      6. Link Summon: Use ARCHOSAUR to link to LINKURIBOH .

      7. Normal Summon: Summon a second BABYCERASAURUS to the field.

        • (Moving on to Part II: Mid-Game Deployment)

Case 2: Includes Souleasing Oviraptor + (Misco or Baby)

      1. Normal Summon: Summon SOULEATING OVIRAPTOR -> Search for the missing piece ( BABYCERASAURUS or MISCELLANEOUSAURUS ) so you have all 3 pieces in your hand/field.

      2. On hand: Activate MISCELLANEOUSAURUS to protect OVIRAPTOR .

      3. Under the Grave: Exile MISCELLANEOUSAURUS -> Special Summon ANIMADORNED ARCHOSAUR from the deck.

      4. On the field: ARCHOSAUR effect activated: Defeat BABYCERASAURUS (in hand) -> Search for DOUBLE EVOLUTION PILL .

      5. Under the Grave: BABYCERASAURUS effect activated -> Summon another BABYCERASAURUS from the deck onto the field.

        • (Moving on to Part II: Mid-Game Deployment)

      II. MID-GAME EXTENSION

After completing Case 1 or 2, you will have OVIRAPTOR and BABYCERASAURUS on the field.

      1. On the field: Activates the second effect of SOULEATING OVIRAPTOR : Destroy BABYCERASAURUS on the field -> Revive ANIMADORNED ARCHOSAUR from the Graveyard.

      2. Under the Grave: BABYCERASAURUS effect (just exploded) activated -> Summon GIANT REX from your deck.

      3. Link Summon: Use ANIMADORNED ARCHOSAUR + GIANT REX -> Summon SECURITY DRAGON .

        • Note for going second: At this point, you can use the effect of SECURITY DRAGON to push one of your opponent's monsters back to your hand before continuing.

III. END BOARD & GOING FIRST

      1. Link Summon: Use LINKURIBOH + SECURITY DRAGON -> Summon DECODE TALKER HEATSOUL .

      2. Spell: Activate DOUBLE EVOLUTION PILL :

        • Exile GIANT REX and a Link monster (not a Dinosaur) from the Graveyard.

        • Summon ULTIMATE CONDUCTOR TYRANNO (UCT) from the deck.

      3. Exile Zone: GIANT REX's effect activates when expelled -> Special Summons him back to the field.

      4. Xyz Summon: Use GIANT REX + SOULEATING OVIRAPTOR (Level 4) -> Summon EVOLZAR LAGGIA or EVOLZAR DOLKKA .

      5. Draw a card: Activate DECODE TALKER HEATSOUL (costs 1000 LP) -> Draw 1 card.

      🏁 End Board Results:

      • ULTIMATE CONDUCTOR TYRANNO: The main boss, capable of turning the entire opponent's field upside down (Book of Eclipse).

      • EVOLZAR LAGGIA/DOLKKA: Negates Spell/Trap/Summon (Laggia) or Monster Effect (Dolkka).

      • DECODE TALKER HEATSOUL: Draw cards continuously.

        • On opponent's turn: HEATSOUL draws one more card -> Transforms into I:P MASQUERENA -> Links to KNIGHTMARE UNICORN or S-FORCE JUSTIFY to harass.

      IV. TIPS FOR HANDLING SITUATIONS

      • If you already have UCT in hand:

Don't use DOUBLE EVOLUTION PILL to summon UCT (because UCT is easily summoned from your hand). Instead, summon OVERTEX QOATLUS from your deck to get an extra Spell/Trap negation.

      • Absolute protection:

If you draw an additional MISCELLANEOUSAURUS (thanks to Heatsoul or Skill), keep it in your hand. During the opponent's Main Phase, activate it to protect ULTIMATE CONDUCTOR TYRANNO from all effects, ensuring the Eclipse is successfully executed.

      • Extended Combo (Follow-up):

Save 4 Dinosaurs from your Graveyard (including GIANT REX and MISC) for the next turn. You can banish 4 to summon OVIRAPTOR from your deck, GIANT REX will automatically return, and you'll have Rank 4 or Link 2 to finish the game.

During the Main Phase, if your opponent Normal or Special Summoned 5 or more monsters this turn (Quick Effect): You can Tribute as many face-up monsters on the field as possible, and if you do, Special Summon this card from your hand, then Special Summon 1 "Primal Being Token" (Rock/LIGHT/Level 11/ATK ?/DEF ?) to your opponent's field. (This Token's ATK/DEF become the combined original ATK/DEF of the Tributed monsters.) You can only use this effect of "Nibiru, the Primal Being" once per turn.

Send any number of other cards from your hand and/or field to the GY; choose that many Effect Monsters your opponent controls, and until the end of this turn, their ATK is halved, also their effects are negated. In response to this card's activation, your opponent cannot activate cards, or the effects of cards, with the same original type (Monster/Spell/Trap) as the cards sent to the GY to activate this card. You can only activate 1 "Forbidden Droplet" per turn.

        Summary

Overall, this deck is very interesting and can set you up in some pretty disgusting matches when you start playing. Miscellaneousaurus is a powerful second card that protects your combo from the most common disruptions, and Ultimate Conductor Tyranno is one of the best boss monsters in the game. Don't underestimate this deck; while it's overshadowed by some others with game-hacking skills, I still think this deck has a lot of potential.
